We have been exploring and learning about the life of a butterfly. Check out the pictures below to see our amazing caterpillars that are going to become beautiful butterflies.

Our caterpillars have arrived. They are just like the caterpillar we have been
reading about in 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' story by Eric Carle...
they are very hungry and eat a lot of food.

We are making and naming the caterpillars.

The caterpillars are now in the pupa stage.
Each caterpillar is now a chrysalis.
We need to put them in their new home...
the butterfly net garden.

We need to wait 7 - 10 days for the chrysalis to change to a butterfly.
We read books and learn about all kinds of butterflies,
including the Painted Lady Butterfly (the species we are raising).

Our butterflies have arrived in their new home.
We are feeding them a special nectar drink.

Our butterflies need to go home to nature and drink
real nectar from flowers.
With a 1...2...3... and a special wish...
we say goodbye to our butterflies so they can begin a new adventure!

May is a great month... full of adventures and discovery!

Singing at our 'singing stage'.
Our favourite songs are:
Frozen - Let it go and the Happy song

Playing sound and letter/word games during centre time.

Reading stories about how seeds grow, then, planting a variety of seeds.
We've planted pumpkins, beans and strawberries in our special
plant growing container.

Students are excited about nature.
We went outside for a bug hunt.

We found worms and lots of interesting creatures.
We like to draw and write about the things we find.
We are scientists in action!

Baby Chicks

We have been learning about the life cycle of a chicken. We were very excited to learn how the chick grows inside an egg and see the chicks hatch from their eggs.

Classroom News

The teddy bear's picnic was fun for all. We brought our favourite stuffed animals on obstacle courses, had a teddy bear toss, sang songs, measured and weighed our stuffies to make pet certificates and we finished our activities with tasty treats. We would like to give a very special thanks to all of the parents who joined us for the picnic.

Students enjoyed a visit from the Windsor Symphony Orchestra for the Peanut Butter and Jam performance. We even had special performances by some of our students.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to ‘Miss Abbey’ who will be our new   co-op student. Abbey is a grade 11 high school student from Tecumseh Vista. She will be helping in our classroom for the remainder of the school year. Many students have shown an interest with trains and other types of vehicles. Students will be given the opportunity to make home-made trains or other creations on Thursday. Please send boxes, rolls, tubes, used wheels, bottle caps, string, pipe cleaners and/or any other odds and ends that your child could use to build. Please make sure all items are sent to school by Thursday.

We will be reading the polar express book in different ways and learning about different types of trains. We will be making train tickets and look forward to boarding the 'Polar Express' at Tecumseh Vista on Friday while we watch the polar express show.
